Amazon Prime Video’s popular superhero satire The Boys is nearing the end of its five-season run. The recently released Episode 7 of Season 5 has left fans heartbroken as one of the show’s most beloved characters, Frenchie (played by Tomer Capone), met a tragic end in this penultimate episode.
A Difficult Sacrifice
In Episode 7, Frenchie puts up a valiant final fight against Homelander (Antony Starr) to protect his love, Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara). To weaken the all-powerful Supe, Frenchie triggers a radiation trap, but the effort proves fatal for him. In his final moments, Frenchie and Kimiko share a poignant goodbye, making it one of the most emotional scenes in the series’ history.
Why Did Frenchie Have to Die?
Addressing the difficult creative decision, showrunner Eric Kripke explained, “We knew we had to kill off one of The Boys. You can’t have a shot at victory unless it costs your heroes something that’s really hard. Frenchie and Kimiko are the heart of the show; despite being killers, they are emotionally sweet. We knew this would cause maximum destruction, and it had to happen. They wouldn’t have a chance of winning if Frenchie didn’t sacrifice himself.”
Actor Tomer Capone shared that Frenchie has been the longest-running character of his career. He noted that the atmosphere on set during the filming of this scene was incredibly moving, and he admitted he still finds it difficult to bring himself to watch his final episode.
The Grand Finale of ‘The Boys’
The journey of The Boys, which began in 2019, explores the dark side of the Vought Corporation and the uncontrollable superheroes they created. The fifth season acts as an all-out war, with Billy Butcher and his team making their final stand to take down Homelander.
- Finale Update: The series finale is scheduled to stream on Prime Video on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Prior to its digital release, the episode was screened in select 4DX cinemas across the U.S. and Canada on May 19 to provide fans with an immersive experience.
Creator Eric Kripke acknowledged that delivering a satisfying conclusion for such a globally successful show is a massive challenge, and he hopes the finale will honor the show’s legacy.
