NEW DELHI. The global diplomatic spotlight is firmly on India, with the Kremlin confirming that Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit the country this September. The visit is centered around the highly anticipated BRICS Summit 2026, set to take place in New Delhi on September 12–13. The summit will unite leaders from some of the world’s most dynamic and rapidly growing economies to deliberate on a range of critical international issues.

Deepening Strategic and Diplomatic Ties

This trip marks a significant milestone, as it will be President Putin’s second visit to India in less than a year. His previous visit in December 2025 for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit laid the groundwork for enhanced cooperation in defense, trade, energy, and long-term strategic partnerships. Political analysts view this frequent high-level engagement as a clear indicator of the enduring resilience and trust that defines the decades-old relationship between New Delhi and Moscow, even as the global geopolitical landscape continues to evolve.

BRICS 2026: A Growing Force for Emerging Economies

The upcoming summit occurs at a pivotal moment for the BRICS bloc, which is currently undergoing a significant phase of expansion. Originally established by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, the alliance has recently integrated new influential members, including Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Key Focus Areas for the New Delhi Summit:

Structural Reforms: Member nations are collectively pushing for meaningful reforms within international organizations, including the United Nations, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), to better reflect modern realities.

Economic Alternatives: As a collective, the bloc is positioning itself as a credible alternative to traditional, Western-dominated global financial institutions, offering developing nations a more inclusive platform.

The ‘Global South’ Priority: During the New Delhi sessions, India is expected to champion the interests of the ‘Global South,’ with a specific focus on expanding intra-bloc trade, financial independence, and sustainable development goals.

The Strategic Momentum

The success of this summit is being meticulously prepared through sustained diplomatic efforts. The recent visit by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to India, and his productive high-level consultations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have already set a positive tone for the upcoming meetings.

As the bloc represents a vast share of the world’s population, natural resources, and economic output, the agreements reached in New Delhi are poised to influence the future trajectory of global economic and political realignment. All eyes remain on the Indian capital as world leaders prepare for these high-stakes discussions.

US-Israel : The military confrontation between the United States, Israel and Iran has entered its fourth day, with tensions escalating rapidly across West Asia. The crisis erupted on February 28, 2026, following coordinated US-Israeli airstrikes inside Iran. The strikes reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, dramatically altering the region’s political and security landscape.

Retaliation Expands Across the Gulf

In the aftermath of the strikes, Tehran launched a series of retaliatory attacks. Drones and missiles were reportedly fired toward American military installations and diplomatic facilities in several Gulf nations. The widening scope of the confrontation has raised concerns about a broader regional war.

Israel, meanwhile, intensified its military operations in Lebanon, targeting positions linked to Hezbollah. The cross-border hostilities have further complicated an already volatile situation.

According to emerging reports, the death toll inside Iran has climbed past 742, reflecting the heavy cost of the escalating conflict. Beyond the battlefield, global markets have also reacted sharply, with crude oil prices surging beyond $150 per barrel amid fears of supply disruptions.

Report: Trump Weighs Support for Anti-Government Groups in Iran

A report published by The Wall Street Journal claims that former US President Donald Trump is considering backing Iranian factions willing to take up arms against Tehran’s leadership. The report suggests that these groups could function as ground forces with potential support from Washington.

US officials familiar with the matter described the idea as one under discussion, though no formal announcement has been made by the White House. The proposal, if pursued, could mark a significant shift in American strategy toward Iran.

Iran’s New Defense Minister Dies Days After Appointment

In another dramatic development, Iran’s newly appointed Defense Minister, Majid Ibn al Reza, died just two days after assuming office. Details surrounding his death remain unclear, adding further uncertainty to the situation within the Iranian leadership.

PM Modi Engages Regional Leaders

Amid rising instability in West Asia, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stepped up diplomatic outreach. Over the past 48 hours, he has held conversations with leaders from eight countries in the region.

These include the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar. The discussions are understood to have focused on regional stability, the safety of citizens and the broader implications of the conflict.

Global Attention on a Fragile Region

As military actions continue and diplomatic channels remain active, the Middle East stands at a critical juncture. With rising casualties, volatile energy markets and shifting political calculations, the coming days are expected to play a decisive role in shaping the trajectory of the crisis.

Trump’s Letter to PM Modi: Donald Trump has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the letter, President Trump said that it is a great honor for him to invite Prime Minister Modi, as the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, to participate in a crucial, historic, and momentous effort to strengthen peace in the Middle East, and to adopt a bold new approach to resolving global conflicts.

On September 29, 2025, I announced the comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict, the 2025 Plan, which included a 20-point roadmap that was quickly embraced by all major world leaders, including those from the Arab world, Israel, and Europe. To further this plan, on November 17, the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2803, which welcomed and endorsed this initiative.

Now is the time to translate these aspirations into reality. At the heart of this plan is the Peace Board, which will be the most influential and results-oriented board ever established, and will function as a new international organization and transitional governing administration.

This endeavor will bring together a group of distinguished nations ready to assume the great responsibility of building lasting peace; to lead with honor and to ensure a secure and prosperous future for generations to come. We will convene our outstanding and committed partners, many of whom are highly respected world leaders, in the near future.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will introduce the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill-2025 in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The bill aims to enhance the ease of living and doing business in India, proposing to ‘decriminalise’ certain minor offences. The government aims to promote trust-based governance and further improve the country’s business environment through this amendment.

According to the bill, it will amend more than 350 provisions, making it easier for Indian citizens to comply with the laws. Earlier, the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act was passed in 2023, under which 183 provisions of 42 central Acts were decriminalised. The Act amended several old provisions related to imprisonment and fines so that ordinary citizens are not overburdened.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day address on August 15, talked about laws that provide for stringent punishment for minor offences. He had said, “Our country has laws that sound strange but provide for imprisonment even in minor cases. I have pledged to ensure that such unnecessary and archaic laws that put our citizens behind bars are eliminated.”

In this context, the government has already eliminated more than 40,000 non-compliances and repealed more than 1500 archaic laws. The government aims to simplify the processes of business and life and provide freedom to the common citizen.
