At the time of the wedding, her parents provided a dowry within their means, but her in-laws were not satisfied. The deceased’s mother, Sunita Devi, tearfully recounted that her in-laws were constantly pressuring her to bring five lakh rupees from her parents’ home to start a tent house business. When Rajni failed to meet this demand, the torture began. First, mental harassment, then physical assault.

Sunita Devi said, “My daughter was four months pregnant. She was happily playing the role of sister-in-law, but these greedy people took everything away.”
