The highly anticipated ‘Junior Summer Camp 2026’ officially commenced at Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK), a premier hub for Rajasthan’s cultural heritage, aimed at nurturing young creative minds. The camp was formally inaugurated by Ms. Shuchi Tyagi, Secretary of Tourism, Art and Culture, and Director General of JKK. The opening ceremony began with a soulful rendition of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, followed by a symbolic launch at the Muktakashi Manch, where colorful balloons were released into the open sky in the presence of eager participants and their parents.
Emphasis on Creativity and Holistic Child Development
While addressing the gathering, Secretary Ms. Shuchi Tyagi highlighted the critical role such initiatives play in the mental and artistic growth of children. She emphasized that in today’s world, it is vital to guide children’s talents in the right direction and foster creative thinking. She encouraged the young trainees to explore various art forms freely, without any pressure, and to use these skills to excel in life.
Comprehensive Training: From Theatre to Madhubani Painting
Sharing the blueprint of the camp, Dr. Anuradha Gogia, Additional Director General of JKK, stated that a diverse range of subjects has been introduced this year to give children exposure to multiple disciplines. During the month-long camp, children will receive expert training in the following fields:
- Music and Instruments: Vocal music along with practical training in playing the Tabla, Guitar, Flute, and Synthesizer.
- Dance Forms: The nuances of classical Kathak, traditional folk dances, and contemporary Western dance.
- Visual Arts: Modern doodle art, portrait making, and the traditional Indian art form of Madhubani painting.
- Literature and Theatre: Acting skills through theatre workshops and introductory literary appreciation through the specialized ‘Story Tree’ activity, aimed at enhancing storytelling and writing capabilities.
Camp Runs Until June 20; Finale to Feature Live Stage Performances
According to the administration, the camp has received an overwhelming response from children and parents alike, with approximately 520 participants registering this season. The summer camp will run daily from May 16 through June 20, 2026. To mark the conclusion of the camp, a grand closing ceremony will be organized where the young participants will showcase the artistic skills they honed over the month through live stage performances.
Notably, for the past 33 years, Jawahar Kala Kendra has consistently worked toward developing artistic interest and creativity in the younger generation under the guidance of traditional masters and seasoned mentors from various fields.
