Darbhanga, Bihar: In a swift legal intervention, the Darbhanga police have arrested a youth for allegedly making offensive and derogatory remarks against the architect of the Indian Constitution, Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. The incident, which originated in the Ghanshyampur police station area, has caused significant tension in the locality.

The Incident Overview

The arrest follows the widespread circulation of a video on social media platforms. In the footage, a youth was seen wearing a traditional headgear (muretha), holding an idol of Dr. Ambedkar in one hand, and using highly objectionable and inflammatory language against the national icon. As the video went viral, it triggered public outcry and demands for immediate police action.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Upon receiving information about the digital content, the Ghanshyampur police, under the leadership of Biroul SDPO Prabhakar Tiwari and Station House Officer (SHO) Alok Kumar, initiated a technical investigation to trace the culprit.

  • Identification: The accused has been identified as Raja Kumar Singh, son of Pawan Kumar Singh, a resident of Punhad village.
  • Action Taken: Following a preliminary interrogation and verification of the video evidence, an FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the law. The youth was subsequently taken into custody on Sunday night.

Official Statement

SDPO Prabhakar Tiwari confirmed that the police are not only focusing on the primary accused but are also investigating the wider conspiracy.

“The video clearly shows the misuse of social media to insult a national figure and disturb social harmony. We are currently investigating the involvement of other individuals who may have assisted in filming or circulating the video. Strict legal action will be ensured based on the gathered evidence,” the SDPO stated.
