Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma participated in a high-level meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday with Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Paatil and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. The meeting resulted in a decisive roadmap for the Yamuna Water Agreement and the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), aimed at resolving long-standing regional issues through mutual cooperation.

Yamuna Water Agreement: Ending the Water Crisis in Shekhawati

The meeting finalized timelines for the ambitious project to transport Yamuna water from the Hathnikund Barrage to Rajasthan’s Churu, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu districts.

  • Joint DPR Status: Rajasthan has shared the joint Detailed Project Report (DPR) with the Haryana government.
  • Technical Coordination: The Haryana government has provided data for most “tapping points.” The DPR will soon be uploaded to the Central Water Commission (CWC) online portal for final verification.
  • Water Allocation: This pipeline will initially provide 577 MCM of water between July and October. Upon completion of the Renukaji, Lakhwar, and Kishau storage projects, Rajasthan will receive a consistent water supply year-round.

High-Speed Connectivity: The Delhi-Rajasthan RRTS

A major breakthrough was achieved regarding the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), which will connect Rajasthan to Delhi via Haryana.

  • Direct Benefits: This high-speed rail corridor will provide Rajasthan with seamless, rapid connectivity to the National Capital Region (NCR), boosting trade and economic growth.
  • Bhiwadi Drainage Issue: The leaders also discussed a permanent solution to the persistent waterlogging problems in the Bhiwadi industrial area.
