On the auspicious occasion of Ganga Dashami, the Government of Rajasthan launched the district-level phase of the “Vande Ganga Water Conservation Jan Abhiyan-2026” at the historic Kalisil Ghat in Kailadevi. The campaign, aimed at promoting environmental protection, rainwater harvesting, and sanitation, saw enthusiastic participation from administrative officials, public representatives, students, and local villagers, all of whom pledged to conserve water.
Water Conservation: A Collective Responsibility
Tina Soni, Karauli In-charge Secretary and Secretary of the Finance (Expenditure) Department, inaugurated the campaign with the traditional rituals of water and peepal worship, followed by a tree plantation drive. Addressing the gathering, she emphasized:
- A People’s Movement: Water conservation is not merely a government scheme; it is a vital mass movement deeply connected to the lives and futures of every citizen.
- Cultural Roots: Indian culture has a long-standing tradition of worshipping nature, water, and trees. We must honor this legacy by utilizing our natural resources wisely and protecting them for future generations.
A 10-Day Intensive Drive
The In-charge Secretary noted that the campaign is being rolled out across the entire state. The primary objective is to engage the public directly in activities related to environmental and water conservation.
- Duration: This intensive campaign will run for 10 days, focusing on the cleanliness of water bodies, desilting, and environmental awareness.
- Long-term Commitment: She urged the public not to limit their efforts to these 10 days but to remain committed to water and environmental conservation throughout the year. She also encouraged residents to actively participate in tree plantation drives during the upcoming monsoon season.
Active Participation
The event at Kalisil Ghat saw a strong show of support from the community. Attendees included Superintendent of Police Lokesh Sonwal, local public representatives, government officials, staff, and a large number of students and rural citizens. The collective presence of these stakeholders underscored the district’s commitment to maintaining the sanctity of water sources and preserving the region’s natural ecosystem.
