In a major crackdown, Jaipur Police arrested two notorious members of the Tangdi Gang: Abdul Mehraaj (30), a resident of Karim Colony, Galta Gate, and Irfan alias Shaktimaan (26), a resident of Vijay Nagar Kacchi Basti, Bhatta Basti. They have confessed to committing over six robberies.

Robbery Case Unfolded

On June 3, a complaint was filed by Dauji, a resident of Chhapolo Ki Dhani, Muhana. He reported that on the night of May 28, while returning home with a friend after buying vegetables near Malpura Gate, two bike-borne men stopped them near Kabristan Gate. They beat him on the legs with a stick and snatched ₹10,500 from his pocket.

Police reviewed CCTV footage and questioned previously charged criminals. Based on evidence, the duo was identified and arrested.

Attempt to Escape During Custody

After being presented in court on Thursday and sent to judicial custody (JC), the accused attempted to flee police custody. While being transported from court, both jumped from a moving police vehicle. As a result, they fractured their legs and were immediately hospitalized. After treatment, they were sent to jail.

Confession and Modus Operandi

During interrogation, the accused admitted to targeting lone pedestrians. Their strategy involved distracting the victim with verbal altercations or using a stick (tangdi) to inflict pain and then snatching money. Police recovered the stolen cash and the bike used in the crimes.
