<p class="wp-block-paragraph">India is currently witnessing a starkly divided weather pattern today, May 14. While a potent Western Disturbance is bringing much-needed rain and thunderstorms to the Northwest, several parts of Central and Western India continue to grapple with severe heatwave conditions. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the country is expected to see above-average rainfall this month, offering a temporary reprieve from the peaking summer temperatures.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">City-Wise Weather Forecast &amp; Temperature Trends</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The following data represents the estimated temperature range and atmospheric conditions for major urban centers today.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-table"><table class="has-fixed-layout"><thead><tr><td><strong>City/Region</strong></td><td><strong>Max Temp (°C)</strong></td><td><strong>Min Temp (°C)</strong></td><td><strong>Forecast Summary</strong></td></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Delhi-NCR</strong></td><td>37° &#8211; 40°</td><td>26° &#8211; 28°</td><td>Light rain/Thunderstorms with dust storms</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Mumbai</strong></td><td>32° &#8211; 34°</td><td>27° &#8211; 29°</td><td>Humid, partly cloudy with light showers</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Chennai</strong></td><td>37° &#8211; 39°</td><td>27° &#8211; 29°</td><td>Opulent heat, humid with isolated thundershowers</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Kolkata</strong></td><td>35° &#8211; 37°</td><td>26° &#8211; 28°</td><td>Partly cloudy, thunderstorms likely</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Bengaluru</strong></td><td>32° &#8211; 34°</td><td>22° &#8211; 24°</td><td>Pleasant, light evening rain possible</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Ahmedabad</strong></td><td>40° &#8211; 42°</td><td>27° &#8211; 29°</td><td>Extreme heat; Heatwave warnings in effect</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Hyderabad</strong></td><td>38° &#8211; 41°</td><td>25° &#8211; 27°</td><td>Hot and dry; scattered cloud cover</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Jaipur</strong></td><td>41° &#8211; 43°</td><td>26° &#8211; 28°</td><td>Intense heatwave; localized dust storms</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Regional Analysis: What to Expect</h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>North India:</strong> States including Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi are on alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-60 km/h. This is primarily due to an active Western Disturbance.</li>

<li><strong>East &amp; Northeast:</strong> Significant rainfall is predicted for Assam, Meghalaya, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Residents should be prepared for potential localized flooding.</li>

<li><strong>South India:</strong> Monsoon preparations are underway in the Andaman &amp; Nicobar Islands, with a potential onset scheduled between May 14-16. Humid conditions remain the dominant feature for Kerala and Karnataka.</li>

<li><strong>West India:</strong> Gujarat and Rajasthan remain the &#8220;heat zones&#8221; of the country, with temperatures consistently crossing the 40°C mark.</li>
</ul>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Critical Factors Influencing Today&#8217;s Weather</h3>

<ol start="1" class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Above-Average Precipitation:</strong> May 2026 has shown a trend of higher-than-normal rainfall, which is disrupting the typical dry summer cycle.</li>

<li><strong>Monsoon Arrival:</strong> The early signs of the South-West Monsoon are being monitored near the Andaman Sea, signaling the start of the seasonal transition.</li>

<li><strong>Active Western Disturbance:</strong> This system is the primary driver behind the sudden wind speed increases and cooling rain in the northern plains.</li>
</ol>
