Fake video contained a false message

The video, which went viral on the social media platform “X,” misrepresented Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s image and video. The fake post provided misleading information about the upcoming elections. Police suspect the video may have been circulated on other social media platforms as well.

Cyber Police Register Case

In connection with this incident, police have registered a case against unknown individuals under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66C (identity theft) of the Information Technology Act. Police officials stated that several other fake videos and photos have been removed recently as part of cyber patrol operations.

Cyber patrols strengthened

Kerala Police have increased cyber patrol activities in view of the upcoming local body elections and the Special Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR). Police say this step is to prevent the spread of fake information and misleading content. Several pieces of false propaganda on social media have been removed promptly.

As the team proceeded, locals including Veeri Singh, Ashish Patel, and others reportedly surrounded the officials, snatched their mobile phones, and forcibly recorded videos to misrepresent the situation.

The complaint, filed at Nadbai police station, includes charges of obstructing government work, manhandling, and making false accusations. Police have registered an FIR and begun the investigation.
