Death of a person suspected of having bird flu infection

According to the health department, the deceased person was infected with the H5N5 strain of bird flu and was undergoing treatment. However, the death has not yet been declared a bird flu death. In a statement released Friday, health officials said the deceased was an elderly man with underlying health conditions and was being treated for bird flu infection.

First Case of Human Infection with Bird Flu

This incident occurred in Grays Harbor County, Washington state, about 125 kilometers southwest of Seattle. The deceased person had a flock of pet chickens at their home, which came into contact with wild birds. The health department stated that this is the first case of human infection with bird flu.

Health Department Warns About the Risk of H5N5 Virus

Officials stated that the H5N5 virus is not considered as dangerous to humans as H5N1. Following this incident, the health department has begun investigating other possible cases of infection. Low Risk to People, Officials Caution
