Karauli, Rajasthan – A major salary fixation scam amounting to ₹73.14 lakh has been uncovered in the Ayurveda Department of Karauli district. In this case, the main accused, suspended Junior Assistant Mukesh Kumar Sharma (48), has been arrested by the police from the Karauli bus stand. Earlier, co-accused Sureshchand Meena had also been arrested. Both are accused of manipulating the salaries of retired employees and embezzling government funds.
How the Scam Was Exposed
The case came to light when three retired employees — Babulal Bairwa, Rajendra Sharma, and Mahesh Gupta — received high-value notices from the Income Tax Department. These notices demanded an explanation for large amounts of money credited to their accounts, even though the employees had never received such payments.Alarmed by the situation, the retirees investigated the matter and filed a complaint at the Kotwali Police Station, which led to a deeper probe and shocking revelations.
Fraud Through Fake Bills
During the investigation, it was revealed that Mukesh Sharma and Sureshchand Meena tampered with the salary fixation process under the 7th Pay Commission. They prepared fake bills and, based on those, transferred the payment amounts into their own and their acquaintances’ bank accounts. The examination of bank statements and transaction records confirmed that the money never reached the legitimate beneficiaries but was instead deposited directly into the accused individuals’ accounts.
Accused Sent to Police Custody
After his arrest, Mukesh Kumar Sharma confessed to his crime during police interrogation. He was presented in court and remanded to four days of police custody. The police are now working to identify other involved individuals and recover the embezzled funds.
Investigation Ongoing
According to the Karauli Superintendent of Police, the scam appears to be a well-planned act executed with internal departmental collusion. Authorities are also investigating whether any senior officials or bank personnel were involved in facilitating the fraud.
