Public Transport Boost in Jaipur: 750 New Buses to Hit the Roads Within a Year

In a significant move to enhance public transport in Rajasthan’s capital, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has approved the purchase of CNG and electric buses after a gap of six years. This ambitious plan will introduce 750 new buses in Jaipur within the next year, ensuring a bus every five minutes for commuters.

The project will add 300 CNG and 450 electric buses. In the first phase, 150 electric buses will arrive within six months, followed by 300 CNG buses. Under the Central Government’s FAME scheme, Jaipur will receive 675 electric buses in the first phase, and 425 more in the second phase—300 of which are allocated to Jaipur alone.

Currently, the city operates 120 diesel buses. With the new additions, the total fleet will expand to 870 buses. Electric charging stations are being set up at Todi and Bagru depots, while the CNG buses will operate from the Sanganer depot.

Across Rajasthan, the state plans to add 1,100 electric buses within a year. These buses will operate not only in Jaipur but also in Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, Bikaner, Ajmer, Bhilwara, and Alwar. The initiative is expected to modernize public transport while reducing pollution levels across the state.
