Pre-Monsoon Rains Begin in Rajasthan, Bringing Partial Relief from Scorching Heat

1 Mins read

Pre-monsoon showers began in Rajasthan on Saturday, providing some relief from the intense heat and humidity, especially in the Jodhpur division. Cloud cover was observed early in the morning in Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jalore, Sirohi, Pali, Chittorgarh, and Rajsamand with light rainfall and cool winds. Light showers were also reported in parts of Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Jalore. On Friday evening, three individuals—including two children—were injured by lightning strikes in Dholpur district.

Heat Alerts Issued in 10 Districts

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heatwave conditions in Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh, an orange alert for Jodhpur, Barmer, Jalore, and Churu, and a yellow alert for Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Nagaur, and Jhunjhunu. Additionally, 23 districts, including Jaipur, are under yellow alert for dust storms and rainfall.

Rain and Storms Hit Several Regions

Light to moderate rain accompanied by strong winds occurred in Bhilwara, Tonk, Sikar, Pratapgarh, Nagaur, Dholpur, and Jhalawar. Bharatpur recorded 17 mm of rainfall. In Pratapgarh (Alwar), strong winds blew away the tin shed of a house during a 15-minute downpour.

Extreme Heat Grips Rajasthan

On Friday, 21 cities across Rajasthan recorded maximum temperatures between 44°C to 50°C. Sri Ganganagar reached 49.4°C, marking the highest June temperature since 1934. Dausa recorded a minimum temperature of 36.2°C at night—its hottest night this season.

Humidity Rises Due to Eastern Winds

With the eastern branch of winds from the Bay of Bengal becoming active, humidity levels are increasing, especially in eastern districts like Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Kota. Experts forecast a further increase in rainfall activity over the coming days with the approach of the monsoon.
