Villagers Protest Against Illegal Liquor Outlets, Gherao Excise Office in Bharatpur

In a powerful demonstration of public dissent, residents of six villages under the Bayana sub-division in Bharatpur district staged a protest on Thursday against illegal liquor operations allegedly being run under the guise of a warehouse.

Villagers from Nagla Purohit, Vidyari, Nagla Chhittariya, Nagla Tota, and Anawali, including men, women, and children, gathered outside the District Excise Office in Bharatpur and submitted a memorandum to the District Collector, demanding the immediate shutdown of the alleged illegal liquor outlet.

Protesters claimed that a liquor shop is illegally being run inside a container on Nagla Purohit road, posing a threat to community peace and the safety of women and children.

The key demands outlined in the memorandum were:

Chanting slogans like “Shut Down Liquor Shops, Save Our Villages,” the demonstrators warned of intensified protests if action is not taken promptly. They stated that the spread of liquor sales is corrupting the youth and disturbing rural harmony.

The protest was especially notable for the active participation of village women, who voiced concerns over safety and demanded permanent resolution from the administration.
