Trump Threatens France: US President Donald Trump has now threatened France. Trump issued the warning after France rejected an invitation to join a proposed “Board of Peace.” Trump threatened to impose a 200 percent tariff on French wine and champagne. The American leader also shared a private message he received from French President Emmanuel Macron regarding Greenland in a Truth Social post.
What did Trump say?
Referring to French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump said, “I’ll put a 200 percent tariff on his wine and champagne, and he’ll join. But he doesn’t have to join.” The board proposed by the US was originally intended to oversee the reconstruction of war-torn Gaza.
Trump shares Macron’s private message:
US President Trump posted a private message from Macron, in which the French president told Trump that he agreed with him on the issues of Iran and Syria, but said he didn’t understand what Trump was doing regarding Greenland.
France Mocks Trump
France also mocked the US over Trump’s insistence on Greenland. In a post on X, the official account of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs wrote, “If one day there is a fire, then firefighters will intervene, so it’s better to burn the house down now.” Using similar analogies, they added, “If one day a shark might attack, then intervention will be necessary, so it’s better to eat the lifeguard now,” and “If one day there is an accident, then there will be damage, so it’s better to crash the car now.”
