A tragic road accident occurred on Saturday evening near Taran village on the Tonk-Sawai Madhopur National Highway, where a speeding roadways bus collided with a bike carrying three family members. The rider, Ashok Barwa (33), was trapped under the bus and dragged for nearly one kilometer before the driver stopped. Ashok died on the spot, while his wife Monika and elder brother Vijendra Barwa sustained serious injuries.
Ashok, along with his wife and brother, was returning to their native village Ayana in Kota after attending a relative’s funeral. They lived and worked in Jaipur. The bus, reportedly from the Tonk depot, was coming from Uniyara towards Taran when the collision happened. After hitting the bike, the driver did not immediately stop and instead dragged Ashok under the vehicle for a significant distance, causing fatal injuries.
Monika and Vijendra were thrown off the bike by the impact and landed safely on the roadside but suffered severe trauma. Local passengers and bystanders rushed to assist, extracting Ashok from under the bus and taking all three injured individuals to Saadat Hospital. Despite medical efforts, Ashok was declared dead, and his wife and brother were later referred to Jaipur for advanced treatment.
The police have seized the bus and launched a manhunt for the bus driver, who fled the scene. Tonk Sadar police are investigating the incident thoroughly and have promised swift action against those responsible.
This heartbreaking incident highlights the grave dangers of reckless driving and poor adherence to traffic regulations. It also raises serious questions about road safety enforcement in the region. The local community and family members are in deep mourning, with Ashok leaving behind two young daughters.
