During the inspection, the minister examined the facilities available at the centre and received detailed information from officials regarding conservation activities, breeding management, and future plans related to the protection of the Great Indian Bustard, popularly known as Godawan in Rajasthan.

The minister stated that under the leadership of Bhajan Lal Sharma, the state government is continuously working towards the protection and conservation of Rajasthan’s state bird. He said the breeding centres established by the Forest Department are playing a crucial role in increasing the bird’s population and improving its breeding success.

According to officials, consistent conservation efforts are showing positive results, with gradual growth in the number of Great Indian Bustards and noticeable improvement in their reproductive capacity.

The Forest Minister instructed officials to further strengthen conservation activities and focus on preserving the bird’s natural habitat to ensure long-term protection for future generations. He emphasized that safeguarding this critically endangered species is a collective responsibility.

JAIPUR: Amidst the scorching heat and severe heatwave conditions in Rajasthan, the Cooperative Department has launched a highly humane and compassionate initiative. Aiming to provide relief to voiceless animals and birds, the department has started a state-wide ‘Parinda Bandho Abhiyan’ (Hang Water Pots Campaign). The campaign was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Cooperatives (Independent Charge), Shri Gautam Kumar Dak, by hanging a water pot (Parinda) at the Apex Bank premises in Jaipur.

Preparing for a Mass Movement via a Vast Departmental Network

Dr. Samit Sharma, Secretary and Registrar of the Cooperative Department, furthered the campaign at the Government Secretariat and Nehru Sahakar Bhawan. He stated that the department would utilize its extensive network to turn this initiative into a ‘mass movement’ (Jan-Andolan).

Key Features of the Campaign:

Widespread Reach: Earthen water pots and water containers will be installed across cooperative bank branches, KVSS (Kraya Vikraya Sahakari Samitis), and Gram Seva Cooperative Society premises throughout the state.

Regular Maintenance: Strict instructions have been issued to officials to clean the water containers daily and refill them with fresh drinking water to prevent the risk of waterborne diseases and mosquito breeding.

Provision for Food: Along with water, arrangements for regular bird feed (Chugga) will also be ensured.

Participation of Every Section of Society

The department has called upon public representatives, philanthropists, NGOs, and the general public to join this noble cause. The Secretary emphasized that the Indian Constitution and Rajasthan’s rich cultural traditions teach us lessons of compassion towards living beings and environmental conservation. This initiative is not merely limited to providing water to animals and birds; it is an effort to strengthen the spirit of compassion and sensitivity within society.

Relief for Visitors at Offices

Along with this campaign, the department has issued special directives to all offices and cooperative societies under its jurisdiction for the convenience of visitors. Given the intense heat, the following measures have been ordered:

Adequate arrangements for clean and cool drinking water must be made for farmers, consumers, and the general public visiting the offices.

Instructions have been issued to ensure shaded rest areas and proper seating arrangements within all office and society premises.

The department believes that along with performing official duties, adhering to human values is a primary responsibility of every officer and employee.
