Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh News : An incident has come to light from Mainpuri district, Uttar Pradesh, that not only exposes the harsh reality of the dowry system but also shames humanity. Just six months after marriage, a pregnant woman was brutally beaten to death by her husband and in-laws. Tragically, the accused not only killed the mother but also punished the unborn child. After the murder, the body was buried in a nearby field, surrounded by weeds, to destroy evidence. Based on a complaint from the deceased’s family, police have registered a dowry case against six people, and the accused are absconding.

The incident took place in Gopalpur village, under the Auncha police station area of Mainpuri district. 21-year-old Rajni Kumari was married to Sachin, a resident of Rangpur village, on April 21 of this year. At the time of the wedding, her parents provided a dowry within their means, but her in-laws were not satisfied. The deceased’s mother, Sunita Devi, tearfully recounted that her in-laws were constantly pressuring her to bring five lakh rupees from her parents’ home to start a tent house business. When Rajni failed to meet this demand, the torture began. First, mental harassment, then physical assault.

Sunita Devi said, “My daughter was four months pregnant. She was happily playing the role of sister-in-law, but these greedy people took everything away.”

According to family members, the dispute reached a peak on Friday evening. Husband Sachin and his family members surrounded Rajni in her home. In a fit of rage, they brutally beat her with sticks and punches. Despite hearing her screams, the neighbors remained silent, perhaps out of fear.

Rajni died within a few hours. After the murder, the accused took the body, took it to a deserted field in the same village, dumped it in a pile of weeds, and then set it on fire to leave no trace. Sunita Devi said that even after her daughter’s body was found, her in-laws continued to mislead the family, but a secret investigation revealed the truth.

Based on Sunita Devi’s complaint, the police have registered a case against six people, including her husband, Sachin. These include Sachin’s brother Pranshu, relatives Ramnath, Divya, Tina, and another family member. All are accused of harassment and murder over dowry demands.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), Rahul Mithas, said, “As soon as the family’s complaint was received, a case was registered under sections 498A (cruelty by husband or relatives) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. A forensic team has been called in to investigate the farm site. The accused are absconding, but efforts have been intensified. They will be arrested soon.”
