In a heartbreaking incident that highlights the immense pressure on students, a 22-year-old NEET-UG aspirant, Umesh Mali, died by suicide in Rajasthan’s educational hub, Sikar. Hailing from Jhunjhunu, Umesh was preparing for his third attempt at the medical entrance test. He was found hanging in his room on Tuesday, just six days before the scheduled re-examination on June 21. A highly emotional suicide note was recovered from the spot, sparking massive political outrage and raising serious questions about the flawed examination system amid the ongoing paper leak controversy.

Key Highlights of this News:

Tragic Incident in Sikar: 22-year-old NEET aspirant Umesh Mali ended his life by hanging himself in his room ahead of the re-exam.

Heart-Wrenching Note: Police recovered a suicide note where the deceased apologized to his family, writing, ‘Sorry… I am going very far away.’

Rising Toll: This marks the second student suicide in Sikar within a month, highlighting the severe mental toll of the paper leak scandal and the pressure of limited medical seats.

Fierce Political Backlash: The opposition, led by the Congress party, has fiercely attacked the central government, demanding immediate accountability for the “corrupt system.”

The Burden of Dreams and a Tragic End

Living away from his family in Sikar, Umesh was working tirelessly to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor. The cut-throat competition among more than 22 lakh students for limited medical seats had already created a high-stress environment. However, the recent NEET-UG paper leak scandal and the subsequent mandate for a re-exam seemingly proved too overwhelming for him. When his family members found him hanging in his room on Tuesday, they were left completely shattered. The local police immediately arrived at the scene, took custody of the body, and initiated a thorough investigation. Umesh’s final words in his suicide note reflect his profound despair and silent mental struggle.

Congress Launches Scathing Attack on the Centre

The tragic demise of the young student has triggered a massive political storm. The principal opposition party, Congress, took to the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to launch a direct attack on the central government. In a strongly-worded post, the party alleged that the “corrupt and murderous system of the BJP” claimed the student’s life. Congress accused the system of “murdering” students and crushing their dreams, directly targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly remaining indifferent to these deaths and failing to take strict action against those responsible for the paper leaks.

Outrage on Social Media and Demand for Justice

The anger is not limited to political circles; it has spilled over onto social media as well. Citizens and various social media handles are mourning the loss of young lives. An ‘X’ user highlighted a poignant list of recent NEET aspirants who lost their lives—Maithili Sonwane, Akanksha Chaturvedi, Siddharth Hegde, Anshika Pandey, Ritik Mishra, Pradeep Meghwal, and now Umesh Mali. The post painfully reminded the nation that “each name was a student with dreams, a future, and a family,” demanding that the government break its silence and take immediate accountability to fix the deeply flawed examination mechanism.
