Sikaroda/Hindaun City | May 3, 2026

In a landmark move toward social and economic empowerment, the District Jatav Social Reform Committee (360 Villages) held a high-level meeting in Sikaroda on Sunday. Presided over by the committee chairman, Hatti Ram Thekedar, the gathering saw a collective pledge to strictly enforce five transformative rules aimed at eradicating regressive customs and financial burdens within the community.

The meeting was attended by the executive members of the Hindaun Tehsil unit and prominent leaders from across the Sikaroda region.

Targeting Social Evils: The Five Pillars of Reform

The committee discussed the implementation of resolutions originally passed during the massive general assembly held on January 18, 2026, at Shri Mahaveer Ji. The primary objective of these reforms is to redirect community resources toward education and financial stability rather than wasteful traditions.

The Key Decisions Taken:

Ban on Gift Exchanges: The tradition of distributing expensive clothes and gifts during ceremonies like Lagan-Bhaat, Jaamna, and God Bharai is now strictly prohibited.

Eradication of Substance Abuse: A total ban has been imposed on illegal liquor shops, gambling, and betting within Jatav settlements.

Abolition of Death Feasts (Mrityu-Bhoj): To relieve families of financial debt during times of mourning, the practice of organizing large feasts (both cooked and uncooked meals) has been banned. Only tea and water will be served to guests.

Ending Samdaura Traditions: The expensive Samdaura ritual following weddings has been stopped. The committee proposed that any exchange should be limited to voluntary contributions based on personal capacity.

Strict Penalties: Committee spokesperson Rinku Kheri Haibat stated that any individual or village violating these mandates would face social and legal consequences.

A Vision for a Stronger Community

The committee has called upon the residents of Hindaun Tehsil to adopt these rules with complete honesty. By shedding these “economic shackles,” the committee aims to make the Jatav community of 360 villages a leading example of social progress in the state.

”Our goal is to ensure that no family is forced into debt because of social pressure. We must prioritize the education of our children and the economic health of our households over outdated customs,” the committee leaders emphasized.

Conclusion

This decisive action by the 360-village committee marks a significant shift toward modern social values. By confronting rituals like death feasts and tackling substance abuse, the community is setting a bold precedent for social reform in Rajasthan.
