₹25,000 Crore Work Orders Issued for Revised PKC Link Project

Jaipur/Roorkee | May 12, 2026

The 43rd Annual Meeting of the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) Society, Roorkee, was held on Tuesday at the NIH Bhawan, chaired by the Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Mr. C.R. Paatil. Rajasthan’s Water Resources Minister, Mr. Suresh Singh Rawat, represented the state at this high-profile gathering.

Rajasthan Water Grid and the Revised PKC Project

Minister Rawat stated that in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Vikasit Bharat-2047,” the state government is rapidly working to make Rajasthan a water-secure state. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma:

Massive Investment: The Rajasthan Water Grid Corporation has been established, and work orders worth ₹25,000 crore have already been issued.

Ground Execution: These orders will effectively implement the Revised Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal (PKC) Link Project, a lifeline for the eastern districts of Rajasthan.

Focus on Shekhawati and Western Rajasthan

The Minister highlighted several long-term water security projects currently in progress:

Yamuna Water Agreement: Efforts are in full swing to bring Yamuna water to the Shekhawati region (Churu, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu).

Water Diversion: Various projects for water diversion and management in the arid regions of Western Rajasthan are moving forward with technical precision.

Collaboration with NIH Roorkee

Mr. Rawat lauded the National Institute of Hydrology for its role as a premier center for policy, science, and technical solutions rather than just a research institute.

Technical Support: He acknowledged NIH’s significant contribution to the National Hydrology Project, specifically in data management, flood forecasting, and groundwater conservation.

The Request: Given Rajasthan’s unique geographical challenges, the Minister urged the Union Minister to ensure continuous collaboration between scientific institutes, policy-makers, and the state government to achieve water self-reliance.

Key Attendees

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Jal Shakti Mr. Raj Bhushan Choudhary, Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Admiral D.K. Joshi, Secretary of Jal Shakti Mr. V.L. Kantha Rao, Director of IIT Roorkee Dr. K.K. Pant, and Director of NIH Dr. Y.R.S. Rao, along with various water resource experts and scientists.

Conclusion

Rajasthan’s proactive approach, backed by a ₹25,000 crore investment and scientific partnerships, marks a significant shift toward a future where the state is no longer defined by water scarcity but by robust water management and security.
