Speaking to reporters in Kulgam district of South Kashmir on Friday, Omar Abdullah said that statehood would give an elected government more powers, allowing it to fulfill its election promises. He said, “We were hoping that the central government would restore statehood as promised in Parliament and the Supreme Court, but that has not happened yet. Therefore, we will continue to raise this issue.”

Omar Abdullah questioned the central government and the Bharatiya Janata Party, saying, “Only the central government and the BJP can explain why Jammu and Kashmir has not been granted statehood yet. But we will never stop our efforts. We want Jammu and Kashmir to regain its rights.”

The Chief Minister also said that the restoration of statehood would further strengthen people’s faith in democracy and accelerate development work.
