The sylvan settings of Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium witnessed a high-voltage “battle of generations” this Saturday as the Gujarat Titans (GT) clashed with the Rajasthan Royals (RR). While the scoreboard told one story, the real drama unfolded in a fierce, personal duel between veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj and the 15-year-old batting sensation, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

The Duel: A Six, a Staredown, and a Roar

Chasing a mammoth target of 230, Rajasthan Royals pinned their hopes on young Sooryavanshi, who has been the talk of the tournament. The teenager showed no respect for seniority, welcoming Siraj by launching his very first ball over the ropes for a massive six.

Sooryavanshi continued his relentless assault, picking up three more boundaries in the same over and briefly putting the Gujarat Titans on the back foot. However, experience eventually trumped youthful exuberance. In the third over, Siraj delivered a perfectly directed short ball that cramped the youngster. Attempting a pull, Sooryavanshi could only manage a top edge, which was safely held by Arshad Khan.

Siraj’s reaction was instantaneous and raw—a powerful roar directed toward the departing batter, signaling his triumph in one of the most intense head-to-head battles of the season. Sooryavanshi walked back after a blistering 36 off 16 balls, including three sixes and three fours.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: The Powerplay Specialist

Despite the dismissal, Sooryavanshi’s stats this season remain staggering for a 15-year-old. He has transformed into a nightmare for new-ball bowlers:

Total Runs (Powerplay): 359 runs

Strike Rate: 242.56

Aggression: 33 fours and 32 sixes in the early overs alone.

Gill’s Masterclass Sets the Stage

Earlier in the evening, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill delivered a masterclass in controlled aggression. Despite battling discomfort in his left foot, Gill anchored the innings with a classy 84 off 44 balls, laced with nine fours and three sixes.

Supported by Sai Sudharsan, who notched a fluent 30-ball fifty, the duo shared a 118-run opening stand. Their dominance exploited a flat Jaipur track, propelling the Titans to a daunting 229 for 4 after Rajasthan elected to bowl first.

In a shocking and extremely unfortunate moment during the Lucknow Super Giants vs Delhi Capitals clash in IPL 2026, Rishabh Pant was dismissed in one of the rarest and most heartbreaking ways a batter can get out.

LIVE Cricket Scoreboard

Delhi, while chasing, were beginning to settle when disaster struck. Mitchell Marsh played a firm straight drive back towards the bowler Mukesh Kumar. At first glance, the ball looked harmless — more chipped than smashed — and Mukesh even had a moment where he could have attempted a return catch.

However, fate had a different plan.

The ball brushed the underside of Mukesh Kumar’s hand, changed direction slightly, and travelled straight toward the non-striker’s stumps. Rishabh Pant, who was backing up as any batter normally would, had no chance to turn back in time.

The ball hit the stumps directly, leaving Pant stranded outside his crease.
A brief moment of stunned silence followed before the umpire raised his finger.

Pant had to walk back for just 7 runs, visibly disappointed and shaking his head in disbelief.
Delhi Capitals’ scoreboard read 19/1, but the psychological impact of losing their star player in such a bizarre fashion was far bigger.

Cricket fans often say that Pant “finds new ways to get out,” and moments like these truly reflect the unpredictability of his cricketing journey. This dismissal will certainly be remembered as one of the most unlucky moments of IPL 2026 so far.
