JAIPUR: Aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and adhering to Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s appeal to reduce fuel consumption and promote environmental conservation, the Rajasthan government is taking decisive steps to make the state’s public transport system robust, modern, and eco-friendly. As part of this initiative, under the PM E-Bus scheme and state-approved projects, 500 electric buses (e-buses) will be deployed for public transport across the state by August 2026. To support the operation of these buses, 9 state-of-the-art e-bus depots are currently under construction. Simultaneously, the fleet of the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) is being expanded; by August of this year, 144 ‘Blue-Line’ buses and 30 AC sleeper buses will be added, significantly strengthening roadway services and improving facilities for long-distance passengers.

Review of E-Transport Services

A review meeting was held at the Government Secretariat, presided over by Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, to assess the progress and expansion of e-transport services. The Chief Secretary held discussions with officials from the Department of Local Self-Government, the Transport Department, Jaipur City Transport Services Limited, and the RSRTC regarding the procurement and rollout of e-buses.

He stated that Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma is committed to developing a better, safer, and more convenient public transport system for both urban and rural areas. Given the rising urbanization and traffic pressure, the state government’s decision to operate e-buses will not only help in reducing pollution but will also provide superior travel facilities to the public. He noted that the operation of these new e-buses would make the urban transport system more efficient and organized, while also leading to a significant reduction in fuel consumption.

Review of Cleaning Services in Barmer

The meeting also reviewed the progress on directives issued by the Chief Minister during the fifth ‘Raj-Unnati’ review meeting held on May 15, 2026, regarding complaints about sanitation services in densely populated areas near the border of Barmer city. District Collector of Barmer, Ms. Chinmayi Gopal, informed the meeting that orders have been issued to resolve jurisdictional and boundary issues between the Barmer Municipal Council, the Urban Improvement Trust (UIT), and the concerned Gram Panchayats to ensure efficient cleaning services.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Principal Secretary of the Transport Department Mr. Bhawani Singh Detha, Secretary of Local Self-Government Mr. Ravi Jain, Barmer District Collector (via VC), and Managing Director of RSRTC and Jaipur City Transport Services Limited Mr. Purushottam Sharma.

Jaipur | May 14, 2026

The Governor of Rajasthan, Shri Haribhau Bagde, has set an exemplary standard for fuel conservation and administrative austerity. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recurring appeals to save fuel, the Governor has issued immediate directives to reduce the number of vehicles in his official carcade.

Leading by Example: Warning Cars and Ambulances Removed

Governor Bagde personally initiated this change on Thursday while traveling from Loka Bhavan to the airport. He issued clear instructions to exclude non-essential vehicles such as warning cars, ambulances, and fire brigades from his convoy during routine city travel. An official order has been released from his office strictly mandating that the number of accompanying vehicles be kept to a bare minimum.

A Call to the Public and Government Machinery

Beyond his personal convoy, the Governor has urged the citizens of the state and government officials to join this movement:

Promotion of Public Transport: He has called upon the public to prioritize the use of public transportation over private vehicles whenever possible.

Self-Motivation: The Governor stated that fuel conservation should not just be a policy but a personal responsibility adopted through “self-motivation” by every citizen.

Administrative Savings: He advised government departments to minimize vehicle usage at all levels to curb fuel consumption and reduce unnecessary state expenditure.

Significance of the Initiative

Experts believe that when high-ranking constitutional authorities take such steps, it sends a powerful positive message to the masses. This initiative is expected to not only save fuel and taxpayer money but also reduce traffic congestion and public inconvenience typically associated with VIP movements.

Disclaimer: This news report is based on official directives and press releases issued by the Raj Bhavan (Governor’s House). Our objective is to spread awareness of government initiatives. Any modifications to security protocols or emergency vehicles in a convoy are subject to the final review and approval of security agencies.

New Delhi/Jaipur | State Bureau

In a significant move toward administrative austerity, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced a series of special directives on Wednesday aimed at fuel conservation and the efficient use of state resources. Following an appeal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding national interest and sustainability, the Chief Minister has implemented these changes starting with his own official entourage.

Reduction in Convoy Fleet

Speaking to the media in New Delhi, the Chief Minister emphasized that “fuel conservation in the national interest” should be a collective responsibility rather than just a slogan. He announced the following measures:

Leading by Example: The number of vehicles in the Chief Minister’s own convoy has been reduced with immediate effect.

Directives for Public Representatives: All state ministers, MLAs, and other public representatives have been urged to limit the number of vehicles in their respective convoys.

Curbing Unnecessary Usage: Government officials have been strictly instructed to ensure that state vehicles are utilized only for essential official duties.

Streamlining Government Programs

To further control fuel consumption, the Chief Minister suggested a strategic reduction in the frequency of physical events and official programs. He advised that meetings and events should be consolidated or optimized to prevent the unnecessary expenditure of petrol and diesel.

Expert Analysis: Governance through Austerity

Political analysts view this decision as a strategic effort by the Rajasthan government to diminish ‘VVIP culture’ and promote a message of ‘simplicity’ among the public. Beyond the immediate financial savings for the state exchequer, this move serves as an administrative benchmark for reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental consciousness.

Key Takeaways:

New guidelines issued for fuel conservation across Rajasthan.

Chief Minister voluntarily reduces the size of his official convoy.

Officials directed to exercise maximum austerity in vehicle usage.

In a significant move toward “fuel conservation in the national interest,” Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has decided to limit the number of vehicles in his official carcade (convoy). Following an appeal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister has taken this step to control petrol and diesel consumption and promote the use of public transport until further notice.

Carcade Now Limited to Only 8 Vehicles

Under the new directives issued by the State Government, substantial changes have been made to the Chief Minister’s security perimeter and convoy:

Reduction in Vehicles: The Chief Minister’s convoy will now consist of only 8 vehicles, down from the previous 13.

Ban on Rallies: No vehicle rallies will be organized during the Chief Minister’s official tours.

Instructions to Ministers: During a meeting of the State Council of Ministers, an appeal was made to all ministers to use the minimum number of vehicles during their travels and avoid unnecessary fuel expenses.

Focus on Administrative Austerity and Public Transport

The Chief Minister has issued clear instructions not only to ministers but also to newly appointed officials of corporations and boards. They have been asked to prioritize simplicity and refrain from organizing vehicle rallies while assuming office.

Additionally, he has appealed to the citizens of the state to increase their use of public transport in daily life, contributing to both fuel conservation and environmental protection.

Expert Analysis: Why This Move Matters

In VVIP culture, massive convoys are often maintained in the name of security, leading to fuel wastage and traffic congestion. The Chief Minister’s decision is an excellent example of ‘Leading by Example.’ This move sends a positive message to the public about curbing extravagance and reduces the financial burden on the state exchequer.
