In a powerful display of grassroots resistance, the women of Jatav Basti in Hindaun City have taken to the streets to reclaim their community’s peace and financial stability. For nearly three weeks, local matriarchs have been staging an indefinite sit-in (dharna) demanding the immediate relocation of a liquor vendor operating near a local drain in the heart of their residential area. What began as a localized grievance has now snowballed into a major public movement, with prominent socio-community organizations stepping in to back the agitation.

A Weeks-Long Struggle Gains Mass Support

The peaceful protest, spearheaded by local women including Sondei, Meera, Chandravati, and Ishwardei, was launched on May 18, 2026. After weeks of administrative silence despite multiple formal memoranda being submitted, the movement received a massive boost of solidarity.

The District Jatav Samaj Sudhar Samiti—a powerful community reform committee representing 360 villages across the Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, and Dausa districts—officially extended its full support to the agitation. Key organizational leaders and prominent citizens arrived at the protest site to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the women.

Addressing the gathering, committee president Hattiram Thekedar, senior vice-president Veer Singh Thekedar, spokesperson Rinku Khedi Haibat, and publicity secretary Amar Singh Baba declared that the community would no longer tolerate policies that prioritize liquor revenues over public welfare. Other prominent figures, including Om Prakash Suman, Prem Singh, Kamal Thekedar Mehmadpuria, Pankaj Nonia, and Brajesh, echoed these sentiments, warning authorities of a larger public stir if immediate action is not taken.

Shattered Peace and Domestic Distress: The Human Cost

The protesting women have leveled serious allegations against the systemic fallout of the liquor shop’s location. According to the residents, the presence of the shop right next to a residential colony and a public pathway has completely ruined the social fabric of the neighborhood.

Voices from the Ground:

“The shop attracts nuisance elements right from dusk. Many men from the locality spend their hard-earned daily wages on alcohol and return home to subject their wives and children to severe domestic violence. It is not just an administrative issue; it is a question of our safety, our dignity, and our children’s future.”

The women further highlighted that localized alcoholism has pushed several low-income families into severe debt and social crises, making the closure or relocation of the shop a non-negotiable demand.

Excise Department’s Stance and the 48-Hour Ultimatum

As tensions simmered, the protest leaders directly contacted the local Excise Department official, identified as Trilok, over the phone to demand a definitive timeline for moving the vendor. The official reported that he is currently addressing the matter at the higher administrative echelon and is actively discussing the relocation process with the Excise Commissioner. He assured the protestors that the department’s stance and action plan would be clarified within the next 24 hours.

However, the protestors are in no mood for bureaucratic delays. The women and supporting community leaders have served a strict 48-hour ultimatum to the local administration. They have warned that if a permanent, binding solution is not executed within the next two days, the peaceful sit-in will transform into a full-scale, aggressive public agitation blockading major routes.

The residents are demanding that the administration respect public sentiment and immediately shift the liquor shop away from the residential zone and the drain to restore peace, safety, and communal harmony in Hindaun City.

Disclaimer:

This news report has been compiled based on verified field inputs, statements from the protestors, and local administrative responses. This platform holds no personal bias against any individual, vendor, or government department, and aims solely to highlight public grievances neutrally.

Hindaun City: Public resentment is brewing in the residential pockets of Hindaun City as a large group of women and local citizens from the Jatav and Valmiki settlements took to the streets to protest against a liquor vendor operating in their vicinity. The protestors are demanding the immediate closure and relocation of the liquor shop, which is currently running near a local drain (nullah) adjacent to their residential colony.

The demonstration was organized and led under the aegis of the District Jatav Society Reform Committee (covering Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, and Dausa 360 Villages). Prominent community leaders, including the committee’s President, Hattiram Thekedar, and Youth President, Hariom Thekedar, spearheaded the agitation, lending significant institutional weight to the citizens’ grievances.

Safety Concerns: Women and Elderly Face Daily Harassment

During the protest, local women expressed deep anger and disappointment over the administrative apathy regarding the placement of commercial liquor licenses. The protestors pointed out that the presence of the vendor has severely degraded the social and familial environment of the neighborhood.

According to the residents, the area transforms into an unsafe zone as dusk falls due to the constant gathering of anti-social elements and intoxicated individuals. The current situation has given rise to several critical issues:

Threat to Personal Safety: Women, young girls, and elderly residents find it incredibly difficult to step out of their homes after dark due to the rowdy behavior of consumers loitering around the shop.

Public Nuisance: The open space near the drain has turned into an unauthorized gathering spot for drinkers, leading to frequent brawls, obscene language, and public disturbances.

Psychological Distress: Families living in the immediate vicinity report constant mental stress due to the volatile atmosphere outside their doorsteps.

Impact Assessment: Densely Populated Zone At Risk

Elaborating on the demographic sensitivity of the location, the committee’s official spokesperson, Rinku Khedi Haibat, stated that the Jatav and Valmiki bastis are highly congested residential zones. The unchecked operation of an alcohol shop in such a space bypasses basic community welfare considerations.

The table below outlines the core socio-environmental risks identified by the community representatives:

Affected Group

Nature of Impact

Long-Term Consequences

Students & School Children

Exposure to vulgar language and rowdy behavior during daily commutes.

Negative psychological grooming and distraction from education.

Local Women & Girls

Constant vulnerability to eve-teasing, catcalling, and inappropriate remarks.

Restricted mobility and a pervasive sense of fear within their own colony.

Neighborhood Youth

Easy and immediate access to alcohol in a residential setting.

Increased risk of substance abuse and early addiction among youngsters.

Demands and Ultimatum Served to the Administration

The primary demand of the ongoing movement is unambiguous: the local administration and the state excise department must immediately intervene to cancel the current location’s clearance and shift the liquor vendor to an appropriate, non-residential commercial zone outside city limits.

The protestors have issued a clear warning to the local authorities. They emphasized that the current demonstration is a peaceful and democratic expression of public dissatisfaction. However, if the administration fails to initiate concrete, time-bound legal steps to relocate the shop, the residents—especially the women of the colony—will be forced to intensify their agitation. The community leaders stated that any subsequent disruption to public peace or law and order resulting from administrative delay would be the sole responsibility of the municipal and police authorities.

The protest concluded with a formal submission of grievances, witnessed by various social activists, colony committee members, and a massive turnout of neighborhood women who vowed to continue their fight until the residential area is freed from the nuisance.

Disclaimer:

This news report has been compiled based on localized public demonstrations, statements from community representatives, and field reports from local residents. It is intended strictly for informational and public-interest journalism purposes. The final administrative or legal jurisdiction regarding the licensing and relocation of the vendor rests entirely with the State Excise Department and the district administration.

Jaipur/Jodhpur | May 14, 2026

The Rajasthan Excise Department has launched a massive state-wide enforcement campaign against the illegal manufacture, storage, transportation, and sale of liquor. Under the direct supervision of Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta, the department is following a ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy, conducting intensive roadblocks, raids, and patrols. In the first 13 days of May alone, authorities have seized illicit liquor worth crores and made hundreds of arrests.

Major Breakthrough in Jodhpur: Truck Carrying Chandigarh-Only Spirits Seized

The most significant success of the campaign occurred on Wednesday night in Osian, Jodhpur. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team from the Jodhpur and Pali Excise departments set up a blockade on the Bharatmala Expressway. During the operation, they intercepted a 12-wheeled truck.

Upon inspection, officials recovered 675 cartons of various premium English liquor brands. The seized stock was specifically marked “For Sale in Chandigarh Only” and has an estimated market value of ₹58 lakh. Two individuals, including the truck driver, were arrested on the spot. District Excise Officer (Pali) Manoj Bissa and the Jodhpur Excise team played a pivotal role in this operation.

Campaign Statistics: Progress from May 1 to May 13, 2026

According to the Excise Commissioner, the enforcement data for the current month highlights the scale of the operation:

Total Arrests: 537 individuals

Vehicles Seized: 55 (including 11 heavy vehicles, 3 light four-wheelers, and 41 two-wheelers)

Impact Across Other Districts

Jaipur | State Bureau

A massive “Special Preventive Campaign” led by Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta has successfully disrupted major illicit liquor networks across Rajasthan. Over a span of just 12 days (May 1 to May 12, 2026), the department has intensified its crackdown through strategic checkpoints, patrols, and targeted raids.

Key Campaign Statistics (May 1–12, 2026)

The department’s latest report highlights a significant blow to the manufacturing and smuggling sectors of the illegal liquor trade:

Category

Statistics

Total Cases Registered (FIRs)

1,158

Total Arrests

460 Individuals

Licit Spirits (Wash) Destroyed

333,565 Liters

Vehicles Seized

45 (9 Heavy, 2 Light Four-Wheelers, 34 Two-Wheelers)

Breakdown of Seized Contraband

The operation successfully intercepted various categories of illegal alcohol, preventing substantial revenue loss and potential health hazards:

Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL): 3,921 liters seized, valued at approximately ₹40.17 lakh.

Country Liquor: 4,419 liters seized, valued at approximately ₹11.86 lakh.

Hand-Tapped (Hathkad) Liquor: 7,845 liters seized, with numerous illegal furnaces destroyed in districts like Alwar, Jhalawar, Dausa, and Jaipur.

Beer: 1,562 liters seized, valued at ₹3.53 lakh.

Regional Impact: Major Success in Udaipur and Hanumangarh

The campaign saw its most significant breakthroughs in the Udaipur and Hanumangarh districts, where combined seizures totaled ₹1.25 crore in illegal English spirits. Authorities also reported high-intensity raids in Rajsamand and Jodhpur, where thousands of liters of raw material (wash) were destroyed on-site to dismantle local production rings.

Expert Analysis: The Importance of Strategic Enforcement

This sustained pressure by the Excise Department serves a dual purpose: securing state revenue and protecting public health by preventing the circulation of potentially toxic, unregulated alcohol. Commissioner Mehta’s “Zero Tolerance” mandate ensures that both the logistics (vehicles) and the production (furnaces/wash) of these criminal networks are being targeted simultaneously.

Jaipur/Udaipur | Excise Department Desk

Under the direct supervision of Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta, the Rajasthan Excise Department has executed one of its most significant operations against illegal liquor smuggling. High-value consignments of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), estimated to be worth ₹1.25 crore, were intercepted in the Udaipur and Hanumangarh districts.

1. Hanumangarh: ₹90 Lakh Stock Hidden Under Industrial Waste

Acting on precise intelligence, the EPF (Excise Preventive Force) intercepted a 12-wheeled truck on the Bharatmala Expressway in the Sangaria sector.

The Tactic: Smugglers had concealed the liquor beneath hundreds of bags filled with castor seed husks (arandi ka chhilka).

The Seizure: 1,070 cartons containing 12,840 bottles of Punjab-made whisky (including Royal Challenge, Royal Stag, and All Seasons).

The Route: The consignment originated in Punjab and was transiting through Rajasthan, destined for Gujarat.

Arrest: The driver, identified as Mangalaram Bishnoi, was taken into custody.

2. Udaipur: ₹35 Lakh Seizure from ‘Secret Cabin’ Truck

In a separate strategic operation in the Kherwara region, officials intercepted a container truck at the Khandi Obri toll plaza.

The Tactic: The vehicle featured a sophisticated concealed cabin hidden behind the wheel caps and false walls.

The Seizure: 330 cartons of Chandigarh-made spirits (market value approx. ₹30 lakh). A second operation in the same area led to the recovery of an additional ₹5 lakh worth of whisky.

Arrest: The driver, Masri Kodiyatar, a resident of Porbandar, Gujarat, was arrested on the spot.

Commissioner’s Mandate: ‘Zero Tolerance’

Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta has reinforced a “Zero Tolerance” policy across the state. During a recent review, he issued a stern warning to department officials:

Accountability: Strict departmental action will be taken against officers who fail to effectively curb the illegal manufacturing and smuggling of liquor in their jurisdictions.

Revenue Protection: Illicit smuggling from neighboring states like Punjab and Haryana causes massive losses to the state treasury. These operations are part of a broader effort to secure government revenue and ensure public safety.

The Operational Team

The successful raids were led by Additional Excise Commissioner Pradeep Singh Sangawat, EPF Deputy Commissioner Pradyuman Singh Chundawat, and District Excise Officer Aadram Dahiya, along with dedicated inspectors and guards from the Kherwara and Sangaria wings.
