JAIPUR: Aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and adhering to Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s appeal to reduce fuel consumption and promote environmental conservation, the Rajasthan government is taking decisive steps to make the state’s public transport system robust, modern, and eco-friendly. As part of this initiative, under the PM E-Bus scheme and state-approved projects, 500 electric buses (e-buses) will be deployed for public transport across the state by August 2026. To support the operation of these buses, 9 state-of-the-art e-bus depots are currently under construction. Simultaneously, the fleet of the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) is being expanded; by August of this year, 144 ‘Blue-Line’ buses and 30 AC sleeper buses will be added, significantly strengthening roadway services and improving facilities for long-distance passengers.

Review of E-Transport Services

A review meeting was held at the Government Secretariat, presided over by Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, to assess the progress and expansion of e-transport services. The Chief Secretary held discussions with officials from the Department of Local Self-Government, the Transport Department, Jaipur City Transport Services Limited, and the RSRTC regarding the procurement and rollout of e-buses.

He stated that Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma is committed to developing a better, safer, and more convenient public transport system for both urban and rural areas. Given the rising urbanization and traffic pressure, the state government’s decision to operate e-buses will not only help in reducing pollution but will also provide superior travel facilities to the public. He noted that the operation of these new e-buses would make the urban transport system more efficient and organized, while also leading to a significant reduction in fuel consumption.

Review of Cleaning Services in Barmer

The meeting also reviewed the progress on directives issued by the Chief Minister during the fifth ‘Raj-Unnati’ review meeting held on May 15, 2026, regarding complaints about sanitation services in densely populated areas near the border of Barmer city. District Collector of Barmer, Ms. Chinmayi Gopal, informed the meeting that orders have been issued to resolve jurisdictional and boundary issues between the Barmer Municipal Council, the Urban Improvement Trust (UIT), and the concerned Gram Panchayats to ensure efficient cleaning services.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Principal Secretary of the Transport Department Mr. Bhawani Singh Detha, Secretary of Local Self-Government Mr. Ravi Jain, Barmer District Collector (via VC), and Managing Director of RSRTC and Jaipur City Transport Services Limited Mr. Purushottam Sharma.

In a significant move to enhance public transport in Rajasthan’s capital, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has approved the purchase of CNG and electric buses after a gap of six years. This ambitious plan will introduce 750 new buses in Jaipur within the next year, ensuring a bus every five minutes for commuters.

The project will add 300 CNG and 450 electric buses. In the first phase, 150 electric buses will arrive within six months, followed by 300 CNG buses. Under the Central Government’s FAME scheme, Jaipur will receive 675 electric buses in the first phase, and 425 more in the second phase—300 of which are allocated to Jaipur alone.

Currently, the city operates 120 diesel buses. With the new additions, the total fleet will expand to 870 buses. Electric charging stations are being set up at Todi and Bagru depots, while the CNG buses will operate from the Sanganer depot.

Across Rajasthan, the state plans to add 1,100 electric buses within a year. These buses will operate not only in Jaipur but also in Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, Bikaner, Ajmer, Bhilwara, and Alwar. The initiative is expected to modernize public transport while reducing pollution levels across the state.
