The Trap of Instant Loan Apps and Digital Extortion

The first advisory highlights the dangers of illegal and unverified instant loan applications. These platforms target individuals in dire need of money by promising quick, collateral-free cash. However, once the app is installed, scammers stealthily gain access to the user’s mobile data, contact lists, and private galleries.

Armed with this sensitive information, criminals resort to severe harassment. They charge exorbitant interest rates and use blackmail—often threatening to circulate morphed photographs of the victims—to extort money. To prevent this, authorities strongly advise citizens to download financial applications only from authorized platforms or official app stores, and to strictly avoid granting unnecessary permissions to any app.

Beware of ‘Task Scams’ and Fake Part-Time Jobs

On December 26, she lodged a complaint at Sadar Police Station. Acting swiftly, Station House Officer (SHO) Devendra Sharma contacted the bank’s nodal officer and registered the complaint with the cyber fraud helpline 1930.

Due to timely action by police and bank officials, the transaction was blocked and the entire amount was recovered. SHO Sharma advised people to immediately report any suspected cybercrime, stating that early action often leads to successful recovery of lost funds.
