Jaipur, June 18: In a decisive move to curb the rising menace of digital fraud, the state government has issued a comprehensive cyber security advisory. Aimed at promoting digital hygiene and protecting citizens from financial extortion, the directive specifically targets the growing threats of ‘Task Scams’ and unauthorized ‘Instant Loan Apps’.

With cybercriminals increasingly exploiting people’s urgent financial needs and desires for extra income, the Home Department has outlined strict precautionary measures. The advisory educates the public on the tactics used by fraudsters and provides crucial steps to safeguard personal and financial data in the digital space.

The Trap of Instant Loan Apps and Digital Extortion

The first advisory highlights the dangers of illegal and unverified instant loan applications. These platforms target individuals in dire need of money by promising quick, collateral-free cash. However, once the app is installed, scammers stealthily gain access to the user’s mobile data, contact lists, and private galleries.

Armed with this sensitive information, criminals resort to severe harassment. They charge exorbitant interest rates and use blackmail—often threatening to circulate morphed photographs of the victims—to extort money. To prevent this, authorities strongly advise citizens to download financial applications only from authorized platforms or official app stores, and to strictly avoid granting unnecessary permissions to any app.

Beware of ‘Task Scams’ and Fake Part-Time Jobs

The second advisory issued by the Home Department warns the public about “Task Scams” operating under the guise of online part-time jobs. In this sophisticated fraud, cybercriminals pose as representatives of reputable companies, offering lucrative payouts in exchange for completing simple online tasks.

To build false trust, the scammers initially make small payments to the victims. Once confidence is established, they manipulate the individuals into investing substantial amounts of money. The government appeals to the masses to remain vigilant, urging them not to believe any unverified investment or job offers and to never transfer funds to unknown entities or individuals.

Conclusion: Report Suspicious Activities Immediately

The core message of the advisory is that vigilance is the best defense against cyber fraud. The state government urges citizens to act swiftly if they fall prey to online cheating, digital extortion, or any suspicious activity.

Victims are advised to immediately dial the National Cyber Crime Helpline number 1930 and register a formal complaint on the official portal at https://www.cybercrime.gov.in. Additionally, notifying the respective bank or financial institution without delay is crucial to block further unauthorized transactions and secure the accounts.

A woman from Khareta village in Hindaun City, Mamta Jatav, has successfully recovered ₹49,998 after falling victim to a cyber fraud in December 2024. The scammers sent her a message pretending to offer an LIC bonus, and tricked her into giving access to her bank account.

On December 26, she lodged a complaint at Sadar Police Station. Acting swiftly, Station House Officer (SHO) Devendra Sharma contacted the bank’s nodal officer and registered the complaint with the cyber fraud helpline 1930.

Due to timely action by police and bank officials, the transaction was blocked and the entire amount was recovered. SHO Sharma advised people to immediately report any suspected cybercrime, stating that early action often leads to successful recovery of lost funds.
