Jaipur, June 18: Reaffirming its ‘zero-tolerance’ policy against tax evasion, the Rajasthan government has initiated a massive crackdown on financial defaulters. In a major operation, the Enforcement Branch-1 of the Commercial Tax Department simultaneously raided two renowned coaching institutes in Gangapur City, located in the Sawai Madhopur district.

The raids, executed under the strict directives of the Chief Commissioner, exposed a large-scale Goods and Services Tax (GST) evasion scheme. These institutes were allegedly running specialized preparation batches for highly competitive exams like IIT, JEE, and NEET under the guise of regular school education, deliberately failing to pay the applicable GST on the hefty fees collected from the aspirants.

During the synchronized action, departmental officials confiscated several crucial documents, ledgers, and fee receipts from the coaching premises, which are currently under intense scrutiny.

Cash Transactions and Years of Evasion

Preliminary investigations reveal a systematic pattern of tax fraud. These two centers had been operating parallel competitive exam coaching classes alongside regular schooling for the past six to seven years. To bypass the tax slabs and keep their income off the official government records, the management was collecting substantial coaching fees from the students entirely in cash.

Human Intelligence Uncovers the Fraud

The Commercial Tax Department effectively utilized its human intelligence network to expose these financial irregularities. The enforcement team first meticulously gathered on-ground information regarding the daily operations and student intake of these institutes. Following this, they cross-verified the tax deposit data available on the departmental portal. The analysis revealed massive discrepancies between the institutes’ actual earnings and their declared tax payouts, which ultimately triggered the coordinated raids.

Conclusion

Currently, the investigating officials are closely analyzing the seized documents and matching them with the fee receipts submitted by the students. The exact quantum of the GST evasion will be accurately determined once this thorough assessment is complete. Through this decisive action, the state government has sent a clear message that tax evaders will not be spared, and such strict enforcement drives will continue unabated across Rajasthan.

JAIPUR: The Enforcement Branch of the Commercial Tax Department has unearthed a major GST evasion and fake billing racket. In a significant crackdown, the department has arrested Nitesh Kumar Singhal, a resident of the Murlipura area in Jaipur. He is accused of defrauding the state exchequer of ₹13.46 crore by illegally claiming Input Tax Credit (ITC) through a network of bogus firms.

How the Scam Was Orchestrated

The investigation revealed that Nitesh Kumar Singhal, who was operating a firm named ‘M/s Jaipur Traders,’ had systematically constructed a web of fraudulent billing. The accused allegedly colluded with various other firms based in Jaipur to issue fake invoices and submitted illicit claims for Input Tax Credit in violation of GST Act provisions. During a detailed audit of these transactions, the department successfully exposed the entire scam.

Strict Departmental Action

Acting under Section 69 of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act, 2017, the Enforcement Branch arrested the accused and produced him before the Special Court (Economic Offenses) in Jaipur. The court has ordered the accused to be sent to judicial custody. The department is now conducting a thorough investigation into the roles of other associated individuals and suspicious firms to fully dismantle the network.

This operation was carried out under the guidance of Dr. Meenakshi Agarwal (Joint Commissioner, Enforcement Branch-I) by a special team comprising Assistant Commissioners Dinesh Kumar Soni and Manoj Kumar Gora, along with State Tax Officers Himanshu Lodi and Vikramaditya Chauhan.

Department’s Stance

The Commercial Tax Department has clarified that its campaign against tax evasion and fake billing will continue with full rigor. The department’s primary objective is to maintain a transparent revenue system and crack down on elements involved in tax fraud. The recent increase in active investigations into fake billing cases has caused significant concern among tax evaders.
