A Collective Effort for Social Change: Sion Kingori

The program commenced with an address by Sion Kingori, State Head of ActionAid Association. Highlighting the ground reality of the Masalpur block, he stated:

“Child marriage is not merely a legal infraction; it is a complex issue rooted in social, economic, and gender inequalities. It cannot be eradicated through laws alone; it requires active community participation and a collective social conscience.”

Understanding ‘Vulnerability Mapping’

District Coordinator Dinesh Kumar Bairwa provided detailed training on the process and utility of vulnerability mapping. This strategic approach aims to create a safety net for children before a marriage can take place.

• The Process: Identifying specific families and neighborhoods where the risk of child marriage is high due to socio-economic factors.
• Target Groups: The mapping places a special emphasis on identifying “dropout” girls, migrant families, and economically disadvantaged households.
• Objective: To gather ground-level data that allows for timely intervention by authorities and social workers.

Strategic Action Plan for 30 Villages

During the session, a comprehensive action plan was drafted for 30 villages within the Masalpur block. Volunteers were trained on how to:

1. Raise awareness within the community.
2. Identify at-risk children who have left school.
3. Coordinate effectively with government departments for immediate protection.

The workshop saw active participation from nearly 20 volunteers, including block consultants Gaurav and Devishankar, and volunteers Ramraj Gurjar and Hemraj Mali. All participants took a solemn pledge to work tirelessly toward a child-marriage-free society.
