BRICS Summit: India’s Strong Presence on the Global Stage

BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) is an international platform that promotes cooperation and development among emerging economies. This year, the 17th BRICS Summit was held in Brasília, where the heads of member states discussed global economic issues, technological innovation, sustainable development, climate change, and multilateral trade.During the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised several important issues on behalf of India. The two leaders discussed enhancing cooperation between India and Brazil in areas such as trade, investment, agriculture, energy, science and technology, and education.Prime Minister Modi described Brazil as “India’s trusted strategic partner” and highlighted the shared role of both nations under South-South cooperation. After arriving at his hotel in Brasília, Prime Minister Modi met with members of the Indian community residing there. He referred to Indian expatriates as “cultural ambassadors” of India and praised their contributions. The Prime Minister stated that the Indian government is committed to addressing the concerns of the Indian diaspora worldwide as a priority.On this occasion, people of Indian origin welcomed the Prime Minister with traditional music, dance, and cultural performances. Addressing the youth, Modi encouraged active participation in the fields of education, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

India-Brazil Relations: Historical and Strategic Partnership

India and Brazil share strong historical, cultural, and economic ties. Both countries believe in democratic values and have consistently supported each other on global platforms like the United Nations, G20, and BRICS. Cooperation between the two countries is steadily increasing in areas such as agricultural research, energy security, biodiversity, clean energy, and space research.

Next Phase of the Prime Minister’s Tour

Following his stay in Brasília, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will head to the final leg of his five-nation tour. This visit not only highlights the proactive nature of India’s foreign policy but also reinforces the fact that India today is playing a decisive role in global diplomacy.
