Pramod Jain Bhaya has been elected MLA for the third time from the Anta constituency. He previously won the Assembly on a Congress ticket in 2008 and 2018. This was his fifth election from this constituency, having won three times and lost twice.

Congress was the first to announce its candidate for the by-election. Bhaya has long been active in the Anta region and even served as a cabinet minister in the Ashok Gehlot government in 2018. His influence in the region is considered quite strong.

The Anta assembly seat falls in Baran district, considered the political stronghold of senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. Raje’s son, Dushyant Singh, has currently been elected MP for the fifth consecutive term from the Baran-Jhalawar Lok Sabha constituency. Despite this, the Congress party has made a strong comeback in this by-election.-
