JAIPUR: In a major fiscal move bringing substantial relief to a dedicated segment of state workers, the Rajasthan government has announced a significant hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR). The benefit targets state employees and pensioners currently drawing benefits under the 5th and 6th Pay Commissions.

Following the directives of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Diya Kumari officially approved the proposal presented by the Finance Department. This financial upgrade is retroactively effective from January 1, 2026, adding a welcome buffer to the disposable income of thousands of families across the state.

Breakdown of the New DA/DR Rates

The approved increase introduces distinct percentage hikes tailored to the two different pay scales. The table below details the structural adjustments:

Pay Commission Scale

Percentage Increase

Previous DA/DR Rate

Revised DA/DR Rate

5th Pay Commission

9%

474%

483%

6th Pay Commission

5%

257%

262%

With this modification, the cumulative allowance for the 5th Pay Commission beneficiaries climbs to an impressive 483%, while those under the 6th Pay Commission will now see their allowance capped at 262%.

Disbursement Rules and Arrears Timeline

The Finance Department has outlined specific execution pathways regarding how the revised amounts will reach the accounts of active personnel and senior citizens:

For Active State Employees: The accumulated arrears for the four-month window spanning from January 1, 2026, to April 30, 2026, will not be distributed as immediate liquid cash. Instead, this amount will be securely credited directly into the employees’ respective GPF, GPF-2004, or GPF-SAB accounts.

Salary Integration: From May 2026 onward, the freshly enhanced DA amount will be permanently integrated into the regular monthly salary slips.

Special Provision for Pensioners: Understanding the immediate liquidity needs of senior citizens, the state administration has ruled that the increased Dearness Relief (DR) arrears accumulated since January 1, 2026, will be paid entirely in cash directly to the pensioners.

Allying with ‘Apno Agrani Rajasthan’

Administrative authorities noted that this timely economic adjustment aligns seamlessly with the state’s baseline philosophy of proactive, worker-centric governance. Under the umbrella vision of ‘Apno Agrani Rajasthan’ (Our Leading Rajasthan), the current regime looks at these modifications not as an added financial burden, but as a mandatory welfare investment to honor the service of its workforce and cushion them against inflationary pressures.
