India is set to experience highly contrasting weather conditions on Monday, June 22, 2026. According to the latest forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the country is currently witnessing two extreme weather patterns. While North and Northwest India continue to swelter under severe heatwaves and oppressive humidity, the Southwest Monsoon is fully active in the Northeast and Southern peninsula, prompting heavy rainfall alerts across several states.

Key Highlights of the Weather Report:

Northeast Alert: Warning of floods and landslides in Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and West Bengal due to extremely heavy rainfall.

North India Heatwave: Temperatures soaring between 40-42°C in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, heavily disrupting normal life.

South India Downpour: Monsoon remains highly active with heavy showers predicted for Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.

Monsoon Advancement: Conditions are turning favorable for the monsoon to advance further into Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh around June 23.

North and Northwest India: No Respite from Heat and Humidity

The punishing heatwave continues its grip over the national capital, Delhi, along with Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. According to the meteorological department, the maximum temperatures in these regions will hover between 38°C and 42°C, while minimum temperatures will range from 26°C to 30°C.

Many parts of Rajasthan are expected to record temperatures above 40°C, accompanied by severe heatwave (Loo) conditions. Although isolated areas might experience light drizzle or thunderstorms, it will only add to the oppressive humidity. However, offering a glimmer of hope, the IMD predicts a gradual drop of about 2°C in maximum temperatures across Northwest India in the coming days.

East and Northeast India: High Risk of Floods and Landslides

The IMD has issued a special “red alert” for Northeast India. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are highly likely to receive ‘very heavy to extremely heavy’ rainfall until June 22. Similarly, a continuous spell of torrential rain will batter Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until June 25.

Parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha will also witness moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning strikes. Local administrations have urged residents to remain highly vigilant regarding flash floods, waterlogging, and landslides in hilly terrains.

South India: Monsoon in Full Swing

The Southwest Monsoon is putting up a stellar performance across the southern peninsula. Heavy rainfall is forecast across major parts of Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.

The weather in IT city Bengaluru will remain pleasant, with maximum temperatures settling comfortably between 28°C and 32°C. Meanwhile, metropolitan cities like Chennai and Hyderabad are expected to face intense rain showers accompanied by thunder and lightning. Coastal areas, including the Lakshadweep islands, will also experience rough sea conditions and heavy downpours.

Central and West India Updates

Monsoon activities are continuing in Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai and the Konkan-Goa belt. Although rainfall was somewhat deficient in early June, light to moderate showers are expected in these regions on June 22. Gujarat may witness localized thunderstorms with gusty winds, and temperatures will range between 32°C and 36°C.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will experience mixed weather patterns—some areas will receive much-needed thunderstorms, while others will continue to face hot and humid conditions.

IMD’s General Advisory for Citizens:

Avoid Waterlogged Areas: Residents in heavy rain zones (Northeast and South India) should avoid venturing into flood-prone or waterlogged areas.

Stay Hydrated: People in North India must drink plenty of fluids, wear light cotton clothes, and avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours to prevent heatstroke.

Agricultural Care: Farmers are advised to take necessary precautions for their standing crops and strictly follow localized agromet advisories.

Disclaimer: This weather forecast is based on official bulletins released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and other reliable meteorological sources. Weather conditions are highly dynamic and subject to sudden changes. Always check the official ‘Mausam’ app or local news channels for real-time updates before planning outdoor activities or travel.
