Radhakrishnan is one of the most respected and senior leaders of the BJP in South India. His appointment as a candidate is considered important because assembly elections are to be held in Tamil Nadu next year. Radhakrishnan comes from the OBC community, which can increase his identity and strength.

At present, Radhakrishnan is the Governor of Maharashtra, but his journey as a governor has been long. He has also previously been the Governor of Jharkhand and Telangana states. Radhakrishnan, who has 40 years of political experience, has also been a Lok Sabha MP twice.

He was born on 20 October 1957 in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, and has been active as a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party for a long time.

This announcement has been made after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the post of Vice President due to health reasons. The Vice Presidential election is to be held on 9 September, while the last date for filing nominations is 22 August.
