Sonam Wangchuk Case :The case of environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was detained for allegedly inciting violent protests in Ladakh, has now reached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court will hear the case on October 6.
The hearing will be on a petition filed by Wangchuk’s wife, Geetanjali Angmo, in which she has termed his detention under the National Security Act (NSA) as unconstitutional and has sought his immediate release.
The petition will be considered by a bench of Justices Arvind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria. Geetanjali argues that her husband’s arrest was carried out out of political vendetta and violates his civil rights.It is noteworthy that Sonam Wangchuk has been charged with serious charges of inciting violence and inciting a mob in Ladakh, following which he was detained under the NSA.
