AHMEDABAD: In a significant move to bolster primary education and ensure equal opportunities, the Gujarat government has officially kicked off the online registration process for admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the academic year 2026-27. This year, the state has announced the availability of over 84,000 seats across thousands of private unaided schools, aiming to provide quality education to children from economically weaker sections (EWS) and disadvantaged groups.
The Directorate of Primary Education has streamlined the entire process through its dedicated web portal, allowing parents to submit applications from the comfort of their homes. This digital-first approach is expected to bring transparency and speed to the allotment process. According to the official notification, the 25% reservation mandate under the RTE Act remains a cornerstone of the state’s educational policy, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder a child’s right to learn in a premium environment.
Eligible families must provide essential documentation, including income certificates, residence proof, and category-specific certificates where applicable. The government has set a strict deadline for the registration phase, urging parents to complete their applications well in advance to avoid last-minute technical glitches. Following the registration period, the first round of seat allotment will be conducted through a computerized lottery system, ensuring a fair and unbiased selection process. Local authorities have also set up help centers in various districts to assist parents who might face difficulties with the online portal. This initiative by the Gujarat government is seen as a vital step toward bridging the socio-economic gap in the schooling system and fostering an inclusive academic culture for the next generation.
