Fake video of Chief Election Commissioner goes viral in Kerala, police register case

CEC Chief Gyanesh Kumar Video Viral –Police have registered a case after a fake video related to the upcoming local body elections in Kerala went viral on social media. The video, which allegedly involved Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, was spreading false information. Officials said the fake video was identified during cyber patrols on Friday, prompting the Thiruvananthapuram City Cyber Police to take immediate action.

Fake video contained a false message

The video, which went viral on the social media platform “X,” misrepresented Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s image and video. The fake post provided misleading information about the upcoming elections. Police suspect the video may have been circulated on other social media platforms as well.

Cyber Police Register Case

In connection with this incident, police have registered a case against unknown individuals under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66C (identity theft) of the Information Technology Act. Police officials stated that several other fake videos and photos have been removed recently as part of cyber patrol operations.

Cyber patrols strengthened

Kerala Police have increased cyber patrol activities in view of the upcoming local body elections and the Special Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR). Police say this step is to prevent the spread of fake information and misleading content. Several pieces of false propaganda on social media have been removed promptly.
