In Karauli, Rajasthan, several differently-abled individuals staged a peaceful protest at the District Collectorate demanding resolution of their long-pending basic issues. The demonstration was led by “Navjeevan Divyang Sahayata Sanstha”, which also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister via the District Collector.
According to the organization, over 450 congenital differently-abled persons have been identified in the district who are deprived of housing, employment, and social dignity. They alleged that fake disability certificates are being used by ineligible people to benefit from government schemes, leaving genuine beneficiaries behind.
Key demands in the memorandum include:
- Investigation of fake disability cases and cancellation of bogus UDID cards
- Creation of a dedicated housing colony under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for verified disabled individuals
- Provision of government loan schemes to help disabled persons become self-reliant
- Enhanced priority in social welfare, healthcare, and education
The organization claimed it had raised the issue of housing earlier as well, but no concrete action has been taken so far. They now demand immediate action and recognition of genuine disabled individuals, ensuring their rightful access to government benefits and a dignified life.
