The Sting Operation: Caught with ₹6,000

As soon as the victim handed over ₹6,000 to the Panchayat Secretary, Jugraj Singh Lodhi, the team moved in. Consequently, the watchman has also been named as a co-accused in the case.

The Grievance: Installments Held Hostage

The complainant, Mahendra Kosti, a resident of Tejgarh, approached the Lokayukta after facing persistent harassment. According to Kosti, a house worth ₹1.20 lakh had been sanctioned under PMAY in his wife’s name. However, Secretary Jugraj Singh allegedly demanded an illegal gratification of ₹15,000 to release the second installment.

The victim revealed that:

• His rightful payment was withheld because he refused to pay the bribe.
• After several negotiations, the amount was “settled” at ₹6,000.
• Unable to bear the extortion, Kosti filed a written complaint with the Sagar Lokayukta SP office on April 16.

What Happened?
According to reports, 23-year-old Golu Ahirwar’s wedding procession was scheduled to travel from his village to Budhi Semra in Chhatarpur district. Before the departure, a traditional procession (Rachwai) was being carried out in the village around 5 PM.

As the procession reached the Lodhi locality, some individuals reportedly objected and asked the groom to get down from the horse. When the groom’s side opposed this, the situation escalated, and the accused allegedly assaulted the groom, dragging him off the horse and beating him with sticks.

Family Members Also Attacked
The groom has accused Guddu Singh, Krishna, Hakam, Paltu, and others of carrying out the attack. His mother, Vidya Ahirwar, stated that when her daughter Manisha tried to intervene, she was also assaulted. The family has also alleged that some jewelry went missing during the chaos.

FIR Registered Under SC/ST Act
After the incident, the family took the injured groom directly to Hatta police station. Police arranged for his medical examination and later ensured the wedding procession could proceed under security.

According to Hatta Station In-Charge Sudhir Kumar Begi, a case has been registered against Vishwanath Lodhi, Bichhu Lodhi, Paltu, and others under the SC/ST Act and other relevant sections. Police forces have been deployed in the village as a precaution.

Giving examples, he mentioned that problems like encroachment on drains and sanitation issues can easily be resolved locally. It is not appropriate to make citizens travel to the district headquarters for such minor concerns.

The primary objective of the administration is to ensure quick and fair resolution of public grievances so that citizens remain satisfied and maintain trust in the system. Considering the summer heat, arrangements for drinking water and buttermilk were also made for visitors during the public hearing at the Collector’s office.
