Traders Shut Down Market in Karauli After Attack on Shopkeeper and His Family; Demand Strong Action and Security

Traders in Karauli observed a market shutdown on Monday in protest against the assault on a local shopkeeper and his family in the Chaudhary Pada area. The incident sparked widespread anger among business owners, who demanded strict action against the accused and improved security arrangements in the market.

According to reports, Mahesh Gupta, a readymade clothing trader, was returning home with his two sons after closing the shop in the evening when bike-borne youths attacked them with sticks. Earlier in the day, an argument had taken place over parking a bike in front of the shop, which later escalated into a violent confrontation.

The injured shopkeeper and his family members were admitted to the Karauli District Hospital for treatment. Following the incident, the Readymade Traders’ Association led a shutdown protest, with traders expressing deep concern over the growing number of attacks on business owners in recent times.

A delegation of traders met Superintendent of Police Lokesh Sonwal and submitted a memorandum, urging immediate arrest of the accused and reinforcement of security in the markets. Traders stated that repeated incidents of violence have created a sense of fear among them.

SP Sonwal assured the delegation that strict action has already been initiated and the accused will be arrested soon. He also stated that efforts are being made to strengthen law and order in the city.

Traders warned that if timely action is not taken, they may launch a larger agitation.
