Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that since the beginning of this year, the Russian army has gained control of approximately 5,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory. In a meeting with top military officials on the occasion of his 72nd birthday, Putin claimed that Russia has a complete strategic advantage on the battlefield.
Putin said, “Our army is continuously advancing, and the attacks being carried out by Ukraine on Russian territory will not significantly change the situation in the war. These attacks only demonstrate the desperation of the Ukrainian leadership.”
Fiercest fighting in Pokrovsk and Dnipropetrovsk:
Russian Army Chief of the General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, stated that Russian forces are gaining ground on all fronts of the war. He said that the most intense clashes are currently taking place in the Pokrovsk and Dnipropetrovsk areas of the Donetsk region.
The Defense Ministry also claimed to have captured two more villages, extending the conflict between the two armies across a front of approximately 1,250 kilometers.
Ukraine’s Counterattack and Situation:
The Ukrainian army says it has made some gains in the Dobropillia area of Donetsk, a key logistics hub near Pokrovsk. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed his forces had pushed back Russian advances in the Sumy border region.
However, Russia has yet to fully capture any major Ukrainian city. In August, the Ukrainian army described Russian attacks as largely unsuccessful.—
