eVoting in Bihar: Bihar has taken a significant step in the election process by becoming the first state in the country to allow voting through a mobile app (eVoting SECBHR). This decision is being implemented in the urban body elections of Bihar, with the aim of providing convenience to voters who, for various reasons, may not be able to reach polling booths. The pilot project for this facility was launched on June 28, 2025, in six municipal councils of Patna, Rohtas, and East Champaran.
What is the purpose of e-voting?
The primary objective of this new e-voting system is to ensure greater participation in the election process, especially from individuals who cannot reach the polling station due to certain reasons. These reasons may include being elderly, having physical disabilities, or other personal issues that prevent them from going to the polling booth. This initiative aims to address and overcome these challenges.
What will be new in the voting process?
The e-voting process will place special emphasis on security and verification. Every vote will be secured using two main methods:
Face Verification: During voting, the voter’s face will be matched with their voter ID, ensuring that the correct person is casting the vote.
Cross-verification with Voter ID: Additionally, the voter’s ID will be cross-verified to ensure that no one is voting fraudulently.
