Patna – The political heat surrounding the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections has intensified, and the NDA alliance is going all out in its efforts to return to power. This time, Chirag Paswan, leader of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), is seen playing a crucial role in the NDA’s strategy. Not only is Chirag trying to consolidate his traditional Paswan vote bank in favor of the NDA, but for the first time, he is also publicly campaigning in support of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
NDA pins high hopes on the Paswan vote bank –
In Bihar’s political landscape, the Paswan community is considered a large and organized vote bank, particularly influential within the Dalit section. Carrying forward the political legacy of his late father Ram Vilas Paswan, Chirag is now working to strengthen the NDA. In the 2020 assembly elections, LJP (Ram Vilas) had contested independently, posing a challenge to Nitish Kumar. However, the situation has changed drastically this time. Having joined the NDA, Chirag is now fully aligned with the BJP and JDU.
Chirag seeking votes for Nitish Kumar for the first time
This marks the first time in Chirag Paswan’s political journey that he is openly supporting Nitish Kumar on election platforms. In the previous election cycle, tensions between the two leaders were evident. But this time, under the NDA’s strategic planning and the BJP’s intervention, the two may share the same stage. This is expected to give the NDA a significant edge in terms of social alliances and caste dynamics.
Political equations and potential impact –
The NDA believes that Chirag’s presence will send a positive message to Paswan voters, potentially damaging the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance). For Chirag too, this election presents a major opportunity to establish himself as a state-level leader. If he succeeds in mobilizing his community’s votes for the NDA, his future political stature could see a major boost.
Energy in campaign, but challenges remain–
Chirag Paswan enjoys popularity among the youth and Dalit communities, but as a former critic of Nitish Kumar, convincing some of his supporters remains a challenge. He will need to demonstrate that even within the NDA, he can effectively safeguard the interests of his community.
